The projected Light Rail line will cross the entire historic centre of Florence from the railway station to Piazza della Libertà passing by the Baptistry of st. John the baptist where Dante was baptised, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore with its unique dome built by Brunelleschi. The drilling and sampling of the ground around the Cathedral started early december. "For the time being are just small sample" said the deputy mayor Matulli.
